THE CATHEDRAL OF ACQUI AND ITS TREASURES

Acqui Terme was already a well-known and popular spa resort at the time of the Romans, who called it Acquae Statiellae, and then as now, it is still typical of the borderland between the Po Valley and Liguria. The thermal waters that still today gush out surrounded by a 19th-century shrine are the emblem of this tourist town. One of the town’s many attractions is the Cathedral with its decorations that depict its tradition and show Pope Sylvester I founding the diocese in 323. The cathedral is of Romanesque origin with Rhenish roots. The bell tower, with its mullioned and three-light windows, retains its medieval character, while the interior houses two “pearls” of exquisite value: the crypt supported by a forest of small columns as far as the eye can see and a triptych of the Madonna del Monserrato by Bermejo. No less interesting is the adjacent “Cloister of the Rectory” with its architecture which bears witness to the transition between Gothic and Renaissance architecture.

CAMPIONISSIMI MUSEUM

Campionissimi Museum is a museum dedicated to cycling and in particular to cyclists Fausto Coppi and Costante Girardengo. It is located in Novi Ligure and is 15 minutes from the Resort. The museum displays images and pages dedicated to the most famous cycling races, and offers a large exhibition of bicycles.The audiovisual rooms allow visitors to relive spectacular arrivals or epic duels.There is also the Museum Shop area, the reading area and a room dedicated to bicycles available for the visitor.

Diritti dell'interessato
